About the ATC Simulation section
The ATC Simulation is the part most candidates talk about. Numbered dots move across the screen at different speeds, and you prevent collisions by removing one aircraft from each converging pair. It sounds simple until several conflicts build at once, and the scoring also counts aircraft you removed when there was no need.
The second phase adds math questions while the traffic keeps moving. That is the real test of divided attention: checking the scope, answering, and going back to the scope without letting a conflict slip past.
Our simulator generates fresh traffic every run with solvable conflicts only, scores collisions, unnecessary removals and math accuracy separately, and replays what happened at the end so you can see where attention dropped.
Tips from practice
- Scan the whole field on a fixed rhythm instead of watching one pair until it resolves.
- Project each aircraft's path forward; pairs whose lines cross soon are your priority.
- During math, glance at the scope between every answer, not after a batch.
Common questions
- Does removing a lot of aircraft help?
- No. Candidate reports and our scoring both treat unnecessary removals as errors, so the skill is removing only aircraft that are genuinely about to conflict.
- Is this the real ATSA simulation?
- No. It is our own original simulator built from public descriptions, designed to practice the same kind of judgment. The real test's visuals and scoring are not public.
