About the Reading Comprehension section
The reading part of the ATSA uses short passages followed by questions. The questions are less about vocabulary and more about discipline: picking the answer the passage supports, not the one that sounds right or that you already believe.
That is a real controller skill. Procedures, notices and letters of agreement have to be read for exactly what they say.
Our passages are original and cover neutral workplace and technical topics. Every answer comes with an explanation of why the correct option is supported and why the tempting ones are not.
Tips from practice
- Read the question before rereading the passage, so you know what you are hunting for.
- For "must be true" items, eliminate any option that needs an assumption.
- Watch for absolute words (always, never, only) that the passage does not justify.
Common questions
- Are the passages about aviation?
- Some are, many are not. The skill being practiced is careful reading, so we use a mix of topics, all written by us.
- Can I go back to earlier passages?
- In timed mode and the mock we keep a realistic flow; practice mode is relaxed and shows explanations as you go.
