How Long Do ATSA Results Take? What Happens Next

Pearson VUE's FAA testing page says ATSA results are available approximately two weeks after the last date of testing. You check them through the "Track this application" link in your USAJOBS account, which takes you to the FAA's hiring system, AVIATOR. You'll see a category, such as Well Qualified, not a score. Depending on when you tested within the testing period, your own wait may be longer than two weeks.

Where your ATSA result shows up

There's no score report emailed after the test, and no FAA staff are at the test center. The process described on Pearson VUE's FAA page is:

1. Sign in to USAJOBS and open your application for the trainee announcement.
2. Click "Track this application." You'll be taken to AVIATOR.
3. Your status will show your category. If you didn't pass, the message reads: "You did not obtain a passing ATSA result on your most recent assessment."

If you tested in an earlier cycle and want to know that result, Pearson VUE's page says you can check the USAJOBS status for that announcement or email the FAA at atsa.questions@faa.gov.

Why results take a couple of weeks

A 2021 Department of Transportation privacy impact assessment for the ATSA explains the pipeline. Your answers are recorded on two vendors' platforms, and the subtest scores are pulled together and sent to the FAA. FAA staff review the data, then it is calibrated and run through the FAA's proprietary scoring algorithm to produce an ATSA score, which is uploaded to your AVIATOR record. The band placement is assigned in AVIATOR when human resources is ready to build a referral list.

That's why results aren't instant, and why the timing is tied to the testing period as a whole rather than your individual test date. The wording on Pearson VUE's page has also changed over time. A 2022 archived copy said results would be available "approximately three weeks after the end of the testing window." A mid-2024 copy said "three weeks after the last date of testing." The current page says about two weeks.

The "two weeks" figure is an approximate guide from the testing page, not a promise. If your status hasn't changed, keep checking AVIATOR through USAJOBS rather than assuming something went wrong.

From application to Academy: the steps in order

The ATSA result is one step in a longer process. Based on the 2026 trainee announcement, Pearson VUE's FAA page and the privacy assessment, the order looks like this:

How long the whole process has taken

There's no single answer, and the FAA's own descriptions have changed as it reworked hiring.

• Before 2025: The DOT Office of Inspector General's January 2023 report called the hiring process lengthy and said the medical and security screenings required before the Academy "can take up to a year." It also noted COVID-19 had slowed testing, clearances and training.
• 2025: In March 2025, the FAA said five months had been shaved off the old hiring pipeline.
• 2026: In April 2026, the FAA said it had moved applicants into the Academy "four times faster" the previous year.

Those are agency-level claims about averages and improvements, not a timeline you can count on. Your own path depends on things like:

• Your category. The FAA said in 2025 that, once cleared, candidates with the highest ATSA scores would be given priority for the Academy.
• Your applicant pool. Federal law gives Pool 1 applicants preferential consideration within each ATSA category. See Pool 1 vs Pool 2.
• Clearances. Missing medical records or a complicated background check can add time.
• Academy capacity. Your track and start date depend on the next available class.

What to do while you wait

• Don't edit your application without resubmitting it. Announcements warn that unsubmitted changes won't be considered, and only your previously submitted application is evaluated.
• Watch your email and spam folder. The invitation to test arrives as an Authorization to Test email, and if you're selected, the Clearance Instruction Letter starts a 60-day clock.
• Start gathering records. If you have a medical history that will need documentation, collecting it early can help once clearances begin.
• Know your options if the result isn't what you hoped for. In recent cycles, a Qualified or Not Referred result has meant waiting for another announcement and retaking. Your new result will replace the old one, even if it's lower. Read ATSA retake rules and ATSA score bands.
